A glamorous photoshoot

All of the ladies that I photograph have their own unique reasons for having a boudoir photoshoot wanting to look and feel fabulous is just one reason. I know that a pampering glamorous photoshoot is a sure fired way of bringing out the inner diva in a woman.

I had the pleasure of getting to know and photograph Alex a little while ago and I am so grateful that she has shared her story.

Tell me a little about yourself: Hmm, where to start?  I live in Portsmouth, and have now reached the big 4-0!  I work in the IT department for the University of Portsmouth, so yes I guess I must be a little bit geeky!!  Haha.  I enjoy driving, sailing, singing and I'm learning to play the guitar.  I like all things French and always look forward to spending my holidays in the South of France.

What motivated you to book a boudoir session?: I'd always wanted to have a glamorous photoshoot, and the boudoir facebook offer seemed like a really good opportunity to put my dream into a reality.

How did you become aware of Lone Barn Boudoir?: I can't quite remember.. I think it was a google search when I was looking for boudoir photographers, and then followed Lone Barn Boudoir on Facebook.

What inspired you to get in touch and book a session with me?: I was a bit fed up, to be honest...  I had wanted to have some boudoir photos taken of me for a while, however, I think it was about a year before I plucked up the courage to contact you.  I decided now was the time, just ahead of my 40th birthday.  I was mainly doing it for myself, to give me a confidence boost, but wanted something more personal that I could share with the special person in my life.

What was your biggest fear before your shoot?: That I would not be able to find decent lingerie for a bigger lady to look flattering in.  I just wanted to look and feel glamorous and wasn't sure that I would look as good as the other ladies on the website and Facebook group.

How did you feel when you arrived at the studio?: Excited and nervous all rolled into one!  However, I felt like [you/Julie] instantly put me at ease - so friendly, and easy to talk to.  Really helped me relax.

What was your favourite thing about being pampered?: I can never do my make up by myself...  I usually put the bare minimum on if you're lucky!  It was good to know that it was being done by a professional.  Being my 40th I just wanted to look my best.

How would you describe your glamorous photoshoot to others?: Really worth doing.  A positive experience, and something that I thought that I would never have the courage to do, but I'm so glad I did.  It was done at a comfortable pace so that I didn't feel overwhelmed.

How did you feel when you saw your boudoir images at your viewing?: I was very pleased with the images.  Some images I loved more than others. I definitely had my favourites, but all of them looked good.  Which caused a bit of a problem when I was trying to narrow down which photos to put in my album, haha!  I ended up including a few more than I was going to as it was so hard to choose!  I don't regret it.

Do you feel any different about yourself since having your boudoir shoot?: Yes and no!  Yes, because I have the proof now that I can look desirable and attractive in my lingerie (or less), but at the same time it is still me... I have always struggled with body image due to being a larger lady.  I think the more I look at the photos the more it reminds me how bigger ladies can also look beautiful.  I don't think it's an instant change in how I see myself, more a slow burn, but I definitely think the photos help me with getting a more positive body image.

What would you say to other women considering a boudoir shoot?: Definitely do it, if you can.  I don't think everyone appreciates boudoir photography, but it's not something to be dismissed.  I think everyone deserves to look and feel glamorous, and understand that anyone can and does look good in nice lingerie, and even with nothing at all!  Having the pictures makes me proud of myself for going through with the photoshoot.  The hardest part was picking up the phone to book it in!  Definitely join the Facebook group - this helped me get the confidence to book, and I'm so pleased that I did.

So many gorgeous ladies I meet feel like Alex, we all suffer from negative thoughts about our body image, but I am proud and privileged to help so many women see themselves in a different more positive light through the power of boudoir photography and their experience of a glamorous photoshoot.
